Nortje by Geraldine is a fashion label that is kind to the planet, making a positive contribution to the fashion industry moving forward.
Designer Geraldine Nortje believes it is not enough to create great fashion without having a sustainable impact. Her priority is to make quality garments from single-fabrication linen made to last, season after season, year after year, to reduce textile waste and prolong the life span of her garments.
Nortje by Geraldine garments are carefully created, timeless, easy to wear, and made to build a collection that can be worn for many years. Nortje by Geraldine custom creates their own textiles with varying hand made prints, and their Bali based manufacturers share their ethical values and practices.
Nortje by Geraldine's design work is carried out between Australia and Bali, Indonesia, and manufactured by a small production family business who Geraldine works closely with.
The Nortje by Geraldine philosophy around design is to keep things simple, comfortable and let the prints and colour combinations do the talking. Through this concept, Nortje by Geraldine has established a signature print which is repeated through the seasons, creating a signature style.
Nortje by Geraldine releases four capsule collections through the year not necessarily in line with the industry, 'trends' or seasons.
The Nortje by Geraldine design process always begins with their independent fabric printing business. Working closely with skilled artisans to make printed textiles using a variation of printing and dyeing techniques, Geraldine finds inspiration in the land around her.
The Nortje by Geraldine printing factory is a beautiful, inspiring place to work from for Geraldine, set among local rice fields under simple thatch and tin buildings with chickens moving around the yard. This is the setting in which the team comes together over many strong black Indonesian coffees to plan unique colour swatches and prints.
Combining block printing, various tie-dye techniques and hand-painted fabrics, no two meters of fabric end up the same, and the imperfections and differences in each garment are what makes Nortje by Geraldine garments so special.
Colour and print is everything.
