At The Fashion Advocate, we value transparency, and we advocate for ethics. We only stock ethical Australian designers who share our values, and as a community, we are designing for positive change.
If you're new to ethical and sustainable fashion, you're on the right path. Every time you shop, you have the power to make a positive impact and shape the kind of world you want to live.
We have nothing to hide, only goodness to give, and good vibes to offer, which is why we list our brands' values on every item. In addition to each individual brand value listed below, all of our designers adhere to The Fashion Advocate's mission statement, which ensures that all workers are paid fair wages, offered safe working conditions and ensured workers’ rights throughout the entire design, sourcing and manufacturing chain, to maximise the benefits to people and communities while minimising the impact on the environment.
+ AUSTRALIAN OR NEW ZEALAND MADE
Our AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND MADE designers passionately piece together their entire collections in Australia and New Zealand, reducing their carbon footprint and supporting the local industry.
+ AUSTRALIAN OR NEW ZEALAND DESIGNED
Our AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND DESIGNED collections are thoughtfully designed in Australia or New Zealand and ethically made around the globe, helping disadvantaged communities and artisans.
Our SUSTAINABLE designers reduce their environmental impact by utilising recycled, vintage or up-cycled fabrics. They also practice low-waste processes and minimise their offcuts where possible. They are passionate about slow fashion, offering ‘made to order’ pieces with no end-of-season waste, or they design staple key pieces that can be worn season after season.
Our ETHICAL designers make their collections by hand, utilise accredited manufacturers, or work with ethical manufacturers offshore that they visit bi-annually. No child labour is involved in the supply chains of any of our designers.
+ ECO-FRIENDLY FABRICS
Designers that create their collections with ECO-FRIENDLY FABRICS use natural, renewable and biodegradable materials such as cotton, linen, hemp, bamboo, wool, cashmere, modal, silk, Tencel or Lyocell.
Our CERTIFIED designers have accreditation from industry bodies such as Ethical Clothing Australia, Fairtrade, Fairwear, Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), B-Corp, or the Australian Made stamp. All of our designers adhere to our community guidelines regarding ethical production and sustainable practices, and those operating without official accreditations are actively working towards obtaining them.
Our VEGAN designers are animal-lovers loud and proud. No animal textiles or animal by-products are used in our VEGAN collections, and no animals have been harmed in the process of textile production or manufacturing.
Our TRANSPARENT designers are open and honest about their supply chains, and they’re happy to answer any questions you may have about the design and manufacturing process. They know the source of their supplies from start to finish, from their fabrics through to their finishes.
+ SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
Our SOCIAL ENTERPRISE designers are committed to changing the world for the better. They design to tackle social problems, help disadvantaged communities, provide people access to employment and skills development, or they donate to charities.
Designers who use RECYCLED materials are tackling the global issue of waste within the fashion industry. Our RECYCLED designers use fabrics such as RPET or ECONYL which are recycled from post-consumer waste, or they may repurpose dead stock fabrics to minimise collection waste.
