I never thought my business would put me in hospital. But there I was. Lying in a hospital bed, staring up at the sterile white ceiling, strapped to monitors and heart machines. My vision faded in and out. My hearing came and went. My heart pounded erratically in my chest, and the headaches were so severe I could barely think.
And that’s when it hit me—my business was bad for my health.
I had been pushing myself for years, ignoring every warning sign. Exhaustion, stress, sleepless nights—I thought they were just part of the process. Part of ‘working hard’. I convinced myself that if I just put in more hours, answered more emails, did more of everything, I would finally see the results I was chasing.
But instead of success, I just got sick. More tired. More overwhelmed. More burnt out. And the worst part? The more I worked, the more I felt like I was spinning in circles. I wasn’t making more money—I was just draining myself completely.
That hospital bed forced me to face the truth: something had to change.
So, I found the courage to change the way I worked and everything else changed with it.
That day, I made a decision that shifted everything.
I decided that my health and happiness were more important than how many emails I could send in a day. I decided that working smarter—not harder—was the only way forward. I decided that I wasn’t going to let my business run me into the ground anymore.
So I redesigned everything.
I created a clear strategy instead of reacting to everything that came my way.
I time-blocked my calendar so I had structure and boundaries.
I built systems that made my work more efficient.
I focused on what actually moved the needle instead of being busy for the sake of being busy.
And what happened? Everything changed.
My business exploded.
I made over $500,000 in just a few years. My business became one of the largest online stores for sustainable fashion in the country and at one point—the world. I won 18 industry awards. I had time, space, and money to take time off. Most importantly—I finally loved my business again.
And I wasn’t burnt out anymore. I was happy.
Your slow fashion business can change too.
If you’re running a slow fashion business and you’re struggling to make sales—if you’re putting in all the hours but barely seeing results—I need you to know this: it doesn’t have to be this way.
More hours won’t fix it. More exhaustion won’t make it better.
The difference between burnout and success? A strategy that actually works.
