2019 marks the 40th birthday of the Bothwell International Highland SpinIN and Fibre Festival (BIHSIFF) and the theme, ‘Life begins at 40’, couldn’t be more fitting.
Hosted in the historic highland town of Bothwell in Tasmania next month, the 40th annual BIHSIFF will bring together local, national and international fibre enthusiasts to celebrate traditional crafting techniques and all things fibre and fashion.
Professor Julian Roberts, the inventor of ‘Subtraction Cutting’, will be presenting at BIHSIFF as an honoured guest this year too, bringing his decades of experience and his passion for sustainable fashion.
TasTAFE students of Fashion and Design and the UTAS Creative Arts Students will also compete in the Fashion Design Competition, and various eco-dying workshops, educational classes and community market stalls will offer an insight into the future of sustainable textile and fibre design.
The BIHSIFF supports the sharing of skills and the building of friendships and cultural understanding, bringing together students, consumers and industry icons to learn from each other and acknowledge the need for sustainable fashion production.
