Lois Hazel’s latest collection ‘Frayed’ was recently launched at an off-site runway as part of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. If you were a fan of classic simplicity and subtle detailing, you would have been in your element at this show. Sculpted wood and leather fringing drew the jewellery collection together, and quality craftsmanship, incredible textures and fine finishing touches told the story of a delicate yet spirited hand-made journey.
Pants, dresses, jewellery, bags and coats filled an airy and open room – transporting me to a crisp Winter morning, waking to fresh, white bed linen, in a room filled with natural light, somewhere in lightly dusted and snowy mountains.
Most runway shows see straight-faced beauties walk in a single straight line, only crossing paths with another model to steal a very temporary limelight – however Lois Hazel’s AW15 collection release was anything but the norm.
Floor to ceiling pillars stood firmly as centre pieces in an all white space, lined with chairs and chatter. The chatter only ceased when we laid eyes on the first model, whose slicked back hair was covered in gold leaves and whose creamy skin was dusted only in light makeup. As more followed, the slender beauties floated along the pathway, stopping in their allocated spots to allow a moment in time for the crowd to marvel at the intricacies of Lois’ designs. One at a time, they appeared, walked, and exited before another model would make her debut. As the last model drifted from the room, I felt as though I had finished the last page of a novel I had been holding on to for months, and now I had to wait for the next release to relive a tantalizing tale.
Lois is as humble as she is talented, and both show through in her intricate designs. Make your way through this winter with a piece or two from Lois Hazel. Shop the collection here.
