Download my free guide, GOOD STUFF: The Guide to Buying Less Crap and More Good Stuff, and start making more informed decisions about what you buy, wear and use every day.

This isn't another guide telling you to feel guilty about your shopping habits. It's the opposite. GOOD STUFF exists to hand you real information about plastic, ingredients and materials, so you can make better calls without needing a science degree or a spare weekend to research every label. That's the whole idea behind sustainable, non-toxic living, it's not about perfection, it's about better information.

Let's start with the elephant in the room: the plastic problem.

This is the part most of us already sense is true, even if we don't know the numbers.

Every year the world produces 460 million tonnes of plastic, and more than half of it is designed for single use, made to be used once and thrown away. Every scrap of plastic ever made still exists on this planet today. It doesn't decompose. It doesn't biodegrade. It just breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces, and those pieces go everywhere. Micro-plastics have now been found in the Arctic, on the summit of Mount Everest, and at the bottom of the deepest oceans.

The plastic problem isn't just packaging, either. Around 60% of the clothing we wear is polyester, a plastic fibre made from fossil fuels. Every time it's washed, it sheds microplastic fibres, fibres too small for most washing machines or water treatment plants to filter out. They end up in our rivers, our oceans, and back in the food chain. Yep, we're eating them.

Researchers are now finding microplastics in human blood, lungs and placentas. This is science, and the science is telling us that the plastic in our homes, our wardrobes and our bathroom cabinets, needs to change.

And it's not only about avoiding plastic. It's about knowing what's actually in the things we buy, and that matters just as much as what they're made of or how they're packaged.

Take the ingredients list on the back of a skincare product, a candle, or a cleaning spray. "Fragrance" or "parfum" can legally represent dozens of undisclosed chemical compounds, because fragrance formulas are protected as trade secrets. Some common sunscreen filters have been linked to hormone disruption. And terms like "natural" and "clean" aren't regulated, they're marketing language, which means two products can both claim to be "clean" while containing completely different, and completely undisclosed, ingredient lists.

So I want GOOD STUFF to show you why informed decisions require actual information, not just good intentions. Most of us were never taught how to read a label properly, or given the tools to know what we were really buying. I wasn't, and it took years of digging to get here.

My own journey started in fashion, but the more I researched, the more I realised sustainability and health are the same conversation. What a product is made from affects the planet. What a product contains affects your body. So my focus grew from the clothes I wore, to what was actually in the everyday products I used, to every little thing I bought into my home. I stopped taking labels at face value and started asking: what's actually in this, and what does it do?

That question is the foundation of GOOD STUFF.

Every brand featured in the guide is chosen because of its transparent approach to ingredients, materials, and sourcing, not just because it uses less packaging or looks the part. I dig into formulations, fabric compositions and sourcing claims before anything makes the cut. My goal is to hand you that research, plainly and without judgement, so you can make the calls that make sense for your life, your body and your budget.

That's what empowered, sustainable living actually looks like. Not an all-or-nothing overhaul or perfection to the point of stress. Just better information behind better decisions, one product at a time.
