'SEO isn't important'. That's what I used to tell myself when I didn't understand it, but when I actually implemented an SEO strategy into my slow fashion business, I went from stressed and into debt to making over $500k in sales running Australia's largest online store for ethical and sustainable fashion.

Before I started working on my SEO strategy though, my business was a mess. I was fueled by my passion and my purpose, but I wasn't paying enough attention to my profit or my strategy. I was treading water and even though some weeks were great, others were dismal, and I really wasn't moving ahead. I also wasn't paying myself a wage because the business wasn't making enough of a consistent profit, so I was stressed, in debt, exhausted and running on adrenaline. It was no way to run a business.

So when I crashed and burned at the five year mark, it was time to change things, and one of the first things I changed - was my strategy. I didn't have one, and it was time to implement one.

When I started to learn about SEO so I could implement an SEO strategy into my slow fashion business, I hated it. I didn't understand it, it felt really hard, I got confused, and when I started to feel frustrated, I'd walk away from it.

But that was another habit I had to break - shying away from things I didn't understand and burying my head in the sand hoping it would fix itself. So, I had to commit to being consistent and sticking with SEO. Over time, I learnt what SEO was, why SEO was so important, and how to implement an SEO strategy into my business, and when I did - the penny finally dropped. My traffic increased, my sales increased, and my business grew.
