Stephanie Devine is a bit of trail blazer. She could have released a bra like every other bra on the market, but she wanted to do things differently. She could have settled for the status quo and designed her bras with the fixtures and finishings everyone else was using, but she wanted to create something more sustainable. She could have settled at ‘that’s just what everyone does in the industry’, but she knew she could do better.
Her unwavering commitment to sustainability and her passion to be as sustainable as possible is what I love most about Stephanie Devine. We’ve never met in person, but we’re digital buddies from way back and we have a shared purpose – to make the world a better place through fashion.
Stephanie set out with a big lofty goal to create the world’s most sustainable bra when she launched The Very Good Bra, and her determination has helped her achieved it.
The Very Good Bra’s range doesn’t just tick sustainability boxes though – it fits well and it feels beautiful, and that’s because it’s made from 100% botanically sourced materials, it’s synthetic-free, and it’s worm-farm friendly. Even the hooks and eyes, which are generally plastic on most common bras, are custom made from 100% organic cotton and Tencel sewing thread.
Stephanie has also recently achieved B Corp Certification for The Very Good Bra, but she’s not one to settle when there’s still work to be done. Over the past twelve months, she’s been working with the Australian fashion industry to change the state of textile waste.
40% of the 600,000kgs of textile waste we send to landfill each year is predominantly natural fibers. We could be composting it or recycling it, not just landfilling it. So, Stephanie has been lobbying the industry, the government, universities and regulatory bodies to work towards changing the state of textile recycling and textile waste in Australia, and she’s on a mission to solve the issue and save the planet.
For Stephanie, running a sustainable fashion brand isn’t just about making sales. It’s about making the world a better place and changing the fashion industry which is why I’m so happy to support her and share her bras.
Sustainable warrior stuff aside, as a woman with DD boobs, a size 10 waist and size 12-14 hips, this bra and underwear set is one of the most comfortable and best fitting I’ve ever found. The knickers are big and old-fashioned, nice and high like I like ‘em, and the bra is underwire free for soft breast support.
