At this very moment, I was surrounded by bees, hundreds of them, but I was happy. Bees are amongst the most important creatures to humans on Earth and they pollinate over 80% of all flowering plants including 70 of the top 100 human food crops.
I’ve never been stung by a bee, maybe because I don’t fear them. Bees only sting out of fear to defend themselves and defend their queen. They die to protect their queen, their life source, and being surrounded by hundreds of them is a beautiful thing, not a fearful thing. The sound of thousands of little wings, the smell of sweet pollen, the energy in the air, it’s beautiful.
Being in this Metta Melbourne outfit was also a beautiful thing. This is the white linen dress I wore for my Women’s Weekly Women of the Future photo shoot in August, and wearing it reminds me of all that I’ve achieved this year.
It’s also an outfit that has heart and it’s made by an ethical Australian label who sees the beauty in the simple things, the little details, the way something fits instead of how ‘on trend’ it is. It’s made from linen, one of the most eco-friendly biodegradable fabrics, it is strong, natural, and biodegradable.
Amongst the bees, in this outfit, there was nothing I could do but soak it all up and smile.
