I first found Zingiber at QT Fashion Week after the fresh new label won Best Up and Coming Swimwear Designer of the Year alongside Misha Collection and Sass and Bide. It’s quite a feat for a label that is yet to officially ‘launch’ onto the Australian fashion market.
I then worked with with Zingiber at the Emerge Australia Fashion Precinct on July 5th and the audience was just as impressed as I were with Nicola Spicer’s unique designs.
Swimwear has traditionally taken two forms; the bikini and the one piece, but Zingiber is a label that pushes these boundaries, delivering a fashionable twist on sun safety in swimwear.
Designer Nicola Spicer has been a very busy woman of late – on top of winning the QT Awards, showcasing with Emerge Australia and running her own label, she’s planned another 3 showcases before the year is over. As I always say, ‘busy is good’ and Nicola is no stranger to the late nights and long days involved with launching a label.
She has been building her label for the last few years on top of working full time – and her determination has paid off.
“It has been one crazy year so far, winning the award and having people reach out to us and want our label to be part of shows, it’s a good feeling.”
“I loved being a part of the Emerge Australia Fashion Precinct and it’s great that Emerge is trying help Australian designers. It’s such a struggle when you’re launching, but events like these really help. It was such a great event, very well structured and an event that I believe will grow into something really big in years to come. Emerge Australia is doing something great for the local industry.”
I love labels that dabble in controversial design and Zingiber Swimwear is definitely on my radar, but I’m not the only one who love it’s edgy side – Sydney Fashion Blogger is a personal fan of the label too.
Nicola is excited about her future for the label, “we have big plans and we’re very excited to show everyone what we’re capable of.”
Zingiber’s very first collection is officially launching next month.
