If you are running an ethical, sustainable, circular or slow fashion brand and using cotton to make your clothes, you need to be aware of a few things.
Firstly, natural fabrics are way better for the environment than synthetic materials, so don't freak out just yet. If you're using cotton over polyester, ten points to you and you're doing great things for the world.
But 'natural' doesn't always mean ethical.
Cotton for example is natural, biodegradable, renewable, recyclable, durable... The list goes on, but, not all cotton is created equal, so we unfortunately can't say that about all cotton. If you're using uncertified GMO cotton, there are some really big issues you need to be aware of.
There is a hierarchy when it comes to the kinds of cotton you should be using and there is a sourcing standard. If you're new to it, don't stress. This is exactly why my Slow Fashion Circle exists and there is no better time to start learning about ethics and sustainability - than now.
Join my Slow Fashion Circle before the end of the month and you'll gain access to all eight calls plus office hours and a bonus manual to help you build out your ethical and sustainable sourcing strategy.
Reach out for details to empower yourself with the knowledge you need to avoid this red flag around cotton, or jump the queue and check out here for access to my Slow Fashion Circle.
