I promised my nan I wouldn’t swear but f*ck Black Friday. It’s bad for fashion and bad for the planet.
Every November, we’re told to buy, buy, buy so we don’t miss out on the biggest sales and best deals of the year. But big brands don’t care about giving us more value. They care about making more money. And behind the deals, Black Friday does so much damage.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday fuel waste, promote overconsumption and encourage discount addiction. We buy things we don’t need, spend money we don’t have, and support brands we shouldn’t, because the FOMO is pushed hard.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday create a monstrous divide too, because sales promote consumerism in a wildly unhealthy way. Scarcity-driven sales tactics normalise discount culture, and the divide in price between slow fashion and fast fashion gets bigger. Those $29 on-sale shirts start looking super attractive next to the $99 ethical options. And the lines become blurred between ‘expensive’ and ‘worth it’.
But cheap deals still have a cost. In Europe alone, Black Friday deliveries create over 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ in a single week, almost double a normal week. Add packaging waste, returns, and fast air-freight shipping, and we end up with mountains of waste for a weekend of bargains.
And we’re being trained to expect discounts. When consumers wait for that BFCM 40% off message, they stop seeing the real value of what they buy. They expect ‘cheap’ as the norm. They stop appreciating quality. They lose sight of value and beauty. And it impacts the conscious brands that price honestly, with integrity.
So I am here to remind you, don’t give in to Black Friday. Build a better business.
If you’re running a conscious brand or sustainable business, you need to know...
You do not need to discount to survive.
You do not need to compete with Black Friday to grow.
You do not need to cheapen yourself to stand out.
You do not need to follow suit and go on sale.
Instead, empower yourself and price to reflect your true worth.
So, I’m going on sale with my fashion business resources so you don’t have to go on sale for Black Friday and feed the monster. My TFA Framework complete bundle is the support, systems and strategies you need to build a conscious selling system year-round, so you never have to go on sale or question your prices.
Stop going on sale and start growing sustainably.
You’ll learn how to step off the discount hamster wheel. You’ll learn how to create sales consistency year-round. You’ll learn how to grow without compromising your values. And most importantly, you’ll discover why sales like Black Friday actually harm your conscious brand, and how to confidently say ‘no’ to the pressure of going on sale.
Because you do not have to go sale to succeed. Get it all right here.
